The Needles

Friday, December 30, 2016, Canyonlands National Park

This would be our last day of outdoor activity for the trip, and it was a great one. We visited Islands in the Sky the day before, where we hiked along the rim of the canyon looking down into its vastness below. The Needles are colorful rock spire formations in the bottom of the canyon. From the edge of Islands in the Sky they do appear as needles sticking up out of the canyon floor.

We spent the day making our way through the lower part of the park towards The Needles, stopping at several places for short hikes.

When we finally reached The Needles it was getting late in the day and Chrissy and Delaney didn’t feel like hiking any more, so Aaron and I set out to walk among The Needles themselves. We need a quick hike a couple of miles in and back while the girls rested. It was a great father-son end to an amazing trip to Southern Utah.

We wrapped up the day with a last night in our condo in Moab. Tomorrow we would make our way back to Las Vegas to celebrate New Year’s Eve in a very different world than the one we were living in for the past week.
