The Last Day Was a Zoo

Thursday, January 2, 2014 – San Diego

We spent our last day in California at the San Diego Zoo, widely considered one of the largest and finest zoos in the world. It more than lived up to its reputation. We wandered through countless exhibits featuring animals from around the globe, all housed in impressively designed habitats. Covering the entire zoo took us the whole day, but it was well worth it.

For our final dinner, we headed to Casa Guadalajara in Old Town. I’d visited the restaurant a few times during business trips to San Diego about a decade earlier, and it was a real treat to share the experience with the family. The food was just as good as I remembered—delicious dishes served in a beautiful courtyard setting, complete with a wandering mariachi band. It was the perfect last meal to wrap up an incredible trip.

The next morning, as we flew home, we were already asking ourselves, “Where are we going now?”
