We were sitting around a cozy fire,
The last time was years ago.
These old friends together again,
The moment’s warmth outshone the glow.
This group met back in college,
A few decades have passed since then.
We only spent four months together
And we packed a whole lot in.
Friday night chicken wings,
A bungee jump at the state fair.
Mahi mahi on a tailgate grill,
A brand-new Parrothead born right there.
Friendships forged in shared experience
In a unique time and place.
We formed bonds that survived changes
In life, and time, and space.
Over time we've seen each other
Sometimes daily, sometimes not for years.
Regardless we pick up where we left off
Sharing our joys and tears.
Last weekend the stars finally aligned
And we were all there in one place.
A warm fire, some beers, an old guitar,
Old friends gathered face to face.
We caught up on each other’s lives,
The happiness and the hardships too.
Life is a struggle, life is a joy,
Good friends help us see it through.
One thing this group holds in common
Is Buffett’s influence means so much.
It felt so good to sing his songs
With those who he has touched.
Like the Cuban Crime of Passion,
It happened just a week ago.
But I'm not only talking about it,
It's still setting my heart aglow.
So, here's to special friendships,
And especially my old friends.
May you be well, happy, and at peace.
Bubbles Up, until we’re together again.
