July 15, 2002 – Jackson, WY
I got up early this morning (shocker!) and headed out for a solo hike. I went back to the Taggert and Bradley Lake Trail. On my way out of the hotel I picked up a “gift pack” in the lobby which consisted of a granola bar and trail mix. With my breakfast prepared I was ready to hit the trail.
I walked counterclockwise this time and therefore came to Bradley Lake first. I walked around the lake a little first, enjoying the views and the reflections of the mountains in the still water. I stopped at the shore and ate my granola bar and trail mix – a perfect breakfast. I took the longest loop I could which would lead back to the trailhead where I left the van and ended up doing over 6.5 miles.
As I write this today in November 2020 at our cabin in North Carolina I realize how little has changed. The kids are all here and we are having a wonderful time. But I still get up early and I still like to solo hike. We went to the summit of Elk Knob today and on the way down I separated from the gang for a while so I could walk in solitude. I can walk for a while alone in the woods and pretty soon I’ll have all the problems of the world solved.
Back to 2002: I got back to the room, took a shower, and did a little reading before Chrissy, Delaney, and Aaron came back from their breakfast and shopping excursion around Jackson. We walked up the street to the Red Oak Grill and had a nice lunch, then off to Snow King Village for the Alpine Slide. The Alpine Slide was a lot of fun. I was worried about Delaney because seven year olds had to ride alone, but she did just fine.
Late in the afternoon we went to the National Museum of Wildlife Art. The beauty of the pieces was spectacular. There were pieces hundreds of years old and some just a few years old. Even the kids were impressed – they had never been in an art gallery or museum like that before.
That day turned out to be the “culture day” of the trip as that night we went to a local production of Oklahoma! Aaron enjoyed it but fell asleep about half-way through. Delaney thoroughly enjoyed it, couldn’t wait to see another play, and still loves live theater.
Dinner that night was at Jeddediah’s House of Sourdough. Great sourdough biscuits with jelly!
Glad you are together with the family in North Carolina. Your Wyoming trip brings back great memories. The National Museum of Wildlife Art is a favorite for Holly and me. Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to you and the entire family.
