July 16, 2002 – Jackson, WY to Idaho Falls, ID
We started with a nice breakfast at LeJay’s Sportsmen’s Café, then for a hike in Death Canyon. First there was a great ride down a dirt road to get to the trailhead, then a walk that was fairly continuous uphill but not too steep – perfect for Aaron. We weren’t very far up when a ranger on a horse with three pack horses passed us. We only went up about a mile to a bluff overlooking a lake. We spent a little time there enjoying the view, then headed back down. It started to rain a little on the way down but stopped before we could get our ponchos out.
After the hike it was time to leave Grand Teton National Park for good. We bought sandwiches and had a picnic at Teton Pass, then headed out towards Idaho. The drive took us through the Snake River valley and through farmland on our way to Idaho Falls.
Once we arrived in Idaho Falls we checked in to our hotel and the kids swam in the pool. We had dinner at Kenny Rogers’ Roasters, which we thought had closed but apparently just the ones in Florida. After dinner we found a Cold Stone Creamery. The kids loved the mix-ins. Aaron had mint ice cream with gummi bears – a combination I don’t think I would have tried.
Just love taking these trips with you through your stories. I have to agree mint ice cream with gummi bears doesn’t sound too appealing, but Aaron was up for anything!!!
