Desert Rain

Thursday, December 22, 2016 – Las Vegas, NV to Glendale, UT via Zion National Park

The drive from Las Vegas to St. George, Utah was quite different for us Floridians. Winding through the desert with rocks, mountains and no trees was very different from the swamps and forests of Florida. However, although we were in the desert we were in rain most of the day. We stopped at St. George for lunch, then headed east through Hurricane (whose name made us feel right at home), Springdale, and into Zion National Park.

We rented a cabin on the east side of Zion, between Zion and Bryce Canyon, outside the small town of Glendale for the next several days. We were anxious to find it and get checked in before dark, so we drove straight through the park without making any stops. The views of the cliffs and canyons were a great teaser to get us excited for the next few days.  We enjoyed the views from the car and looked forward to the upcoming days of exploration.

The cabin was fantastic. A nice big lot with a long driveway (which would be a snowy challenge in a few days), a well-equipped kitchen, and a fireplace. A great home base for exploration of Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks and a great place where we would spend Christmas together. After a couple of days mostly traveling, tomorrow the real adventure would start!
