Island Time

Monday morning’s here, the alarm goes off again
A deadline to meet, a plane to catch, a meeting to attend
We humans are damn good at generating stress
But deep down in our souls, we all know better than this

Island time is a state of mind
Where nothing's more important than being kind
It doesn't matter where you are, you don't need the beach
Set your watch to island time - it’s always within reach

Here I am on island time
My biggest worry is my next rhyme
I'll get things done, but I won't hurry
Life's too short to fill it up with worry

The constant hum of the city, the roar of a jet plane
The hush of a forest, the grace of a sandhill crane
Pause with me a moment, take in these signs of life
Everything’s connected, in both joy and strife

When your watch is set to island time, the important time is now
Don't fret about the future, it will arrive somehow
There are always lessons to be learned from looking at the past
But don't dwell there for too long, today goes by so fast

Here I am on island time
My biggest worry is my next rhyme
I'll get things done, but I won't hurry
Life's too short to fill it up with worry

So pour yourself a drink, cue up a favorite song
Settle into the moment, it won't take very long
Ignore the notification when the phone begins to chime
Just sit with me a while, here on island time

  1. Wow Vaughan Island time is awesome, just wish your Papa Leonard was here to read it. He was quite the rhyming poet himself although I don’t think he was quite as good as you. His were much shorter. Island Time, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. As always your message is spot on and we all can learn from your words.
